Two men have been injured after a scaffolding staircase in Moulsham Street collapsed.
Police were called shortly after 11.15am to Moulsham Street, Chelmsford, following reports that a scaffolding staircase had collapsed.
One man is believed to have suffered head injuries and another is believed to have suffered facial injuries.
The ambulance service was called and the street was closed from the juction with Parkway to enable the Air Ambulance to land.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called at 11.01am today to Moulsham Street, Chelmsford, to a report of staircase that had collapsed on two people.
"Two ambulance crews, two ambulance officers, a rapid response vehicle, Hazardous Area Response Team, and Herts Air Ambulance attended.
"Two men were injured – one had a head injury and the other was described as walking wounded.
"Both were taken to Broomfield Hospital by land ambulance for further treatment."
The Health and Safety Executive have been informed.
The road has reopened.
