A 17-YEAR-OLD boy from Chelmsford has been charged after a stolen car was found in the River Chelmer near Little Baddow.
Police and fire crews were called to the river last Thursday (15th) morning on Church Road following reports a Citroen Picasso had crashed into the water, though it was unclear how long it had been there.
The registered owner was contacted and confirmed that the car had been taken without her consent.
Four fire crews and a water support team were called to the scene following fears someone may have been trapped inside the vehicle.
The police helicopter was also called to assist the search.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and vehicle damage, as well as using a vehicle without insurance or licence.
He has been bailed to appear at Chelmsford Youth Court on June 6.
