A WOMAN who swore at police officers and carried a large kitchen knife in her bag has been given a community order.

Sarah Kirk, 22, of Sunrise Avenue, Melbourne, pleaded guilty at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court, last week, to possessing a knife blade and using threatening words to cause alarm.

On July 3, Kirk confronted police officers in the car park of KFC in Broomfield Road after they arrested the driver of a Vauxhall Corsa she had been a passenger in.

A search of her bag uncovered a 7.5inch kitchen knife.

Kirk was sentenced to a 12-month community order and was told she must complete 80 hours unpaid work and also attend a Medium Alcohol Intervention programme.

She was also handed a 12-month supervision order and ordered to pay £85 towards legal costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

A destruction order was put on the knife she was found carrying.
