A BUSINESS group has invested £1million into a project which could be bringing 350 new homes to Boreham.

The South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP) are providing the funding to support two planned major housing developments set for land near the Boreham Interchange.

Money for the investment was provided through a loan from the Government’s Growing Places Fund which helps pay for house building schemes and create jobs in the UK.

John Spence, chairman of the SELEP, said: “Ensuring we have the infrastructure that enables and supports the creation of new jobs and development of new homes is a key priority of SELEP.

“Schemes like this, and the others we are supporting across the SELEP area, help us towards achieving our goal of creating the most enterprising economy in England.”

The provision of the funding has been praised locally with Neil Gulliver, city councillor responsible for planning and economic development, saying the cash will really help Chelmsford.

Mr Gulliver said: “Delivering infrastructure up front and early is critical to bringing forward sustainable development across the city.

“The forward funding of these improvements at the Boreham Interchange will play a key part in bringing forward much needed new homes in north Chelmsford and I am delighted that the LEP has seen this as a priority to support through the Growing Places Fund.”

Kevin Bentley, county councillor responsible for infrastructure and economic growth, said the funding is a welcome boost.

Mr Bentley said: “Investment in the Boreham Interchange will help encourage growth, by ensuring we have efficient transport routes for our current and future residents and visitors, and the necessary infrastructure in place for the City and county to grow.”
