GET ready for an evening first-rate swing and mainstream jazz in Rhuallt next month.

Best known throughout the area as leader of his eighteen piece big band, clarinetist Bill Basey will bring Gramophone Five plus Four, another mesmerising North Wales Jazz session at the White House, near St Asaph.

The group, which has a reputation is a favourite band at the annual Nantwich Jazz and Blues Festival, drawing on the great music composed between the 20s and the 70s with the sounds of Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Duke Ellington and Woody Herman and more.

Numbers range from popular standards like Stella By Starlight and Sleepy Time Down South to the Ellington classics, I'm Just A Lucky So and So and Concerto for Cootie, timeless material played with a modern feel.

​Heading the line-up is Bill Basey himself on clarinet and sax, with an array of front-line talent which includes Don Owen and Tony Tucker on trumpets, John Clewett on alto and baritone saxes), Keith Allen on trombone.

Joining the five piece is Guildhall School of Music graduate Liam Byrne tenor sax), who is well known to North Wales Jazz audiences as leader of the Classic Jazz Quartet, BBQ and Hot 6.

For this North Wales Jazz concert, these incredible six front liners will be joined by the rhythm section of Malcolm Hogarth on keyboards - a member of the UK's longest established trad jazz outfit, the renowned Merseysippi Jazz Band - Isabel Toner on double bass and Billy Buck on drums for a truly massive sound.
