“Yer a gamechanger, Harry”, Hagrid may have said in another universe – because Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe now stars in a BBC Two drama about a pioneering video game creator.
The 26-year-old stars in The Gamechangers as “the British genius behind the most lucrative video game ever”: Grand Theft Auto.
The first teaser trailer has just been released, showing a bearded Daniel alongside co-star Bill Paxton.
The drama tells the story of the famous censorship battle over the video game series, which was first released in 1997.
Daniel plays the role of Rockstar co-founder and president Sam Houser, who becomes tangled in a court battle with lawyer Jack Thompson (Bill), a “man on a moral mission”.
The Gamechangers was shot by Owen Harris, who has directed Misfits and Black Mirror.
Grand Theft Auto writer Steve Hammond previously expressed concerns that the BBC had not approached members of the original development team about the new drama. According to The Guardian, Rockstar launched action against the BBC in May.
The Gamechangers will air on September 15 at 9pm on BBC Two.
