The Halo franchise has to be one of the biggest in the world – in fact they have shifted 46 million of them since 2001.
And now it’s back.

This is Halo 4 – by the time you read this, millions more will have been sold around the world and sees the return of Master Chief.

It does a little Command and Conquer with some live action sections, but you will want to move on to the amazing battle scenes.

The company says this is set four years after the events in Halo 3. Master Chief returns to confront his destiny and face an ancient evil that threatens the fate of the entire universe. Baddies, in other words – what first person shooter doesn’t have a plethora of baddies on tap ready to stand in the way of your over-developed weapon for your entertainment over eight huge missions that look gorgeous and are well-paced. They have worked hard on sound, and it can be creepy.

Phil Spencer is corporate vice president of Microsoft Studios, and he said: “We are beginning a new saga with ‘Halo 4’ and embarking on a journey that will encompass the next decade of ‘Halo’ games and experiences.

“Millions of fans worldwide have been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to step back into the boots of Master Chief, and with ‘Halo 4’ leading the charge, we’re confident 2012 will be the most successful year in Xbox history.

“Halo 3,” the biggest consumer product launch of all time when it released in 2007, to concluded the original game trilogy, but left many unanswered questions around the fates of the series’ beloved hero, the Master Chief, and his artificial intelligence companion, Cortana.” And she has some unusual dress sense.
This is basically the start of another trilogy, and from what we have seen of it so far, you’d be crazy not to sample the single player spectacle.
But as always with games like this, it is going to live or die on how good the multiplayer is, and in this day and age, surely they won’t get that wrong. Will they?
Some additional modes like extraction is great fun and there are plenty of updates and lots of maps. And don’t forget Halo’s famous vehicles. Side missions are downloadable for a while for Live Gold members. You WILL play it over and over.

Wonder what they will do with Halo 5.
