Mixed start to season for Writtle BC
Last weekend saw mixed results for Writtle Bowling Club.
Writtle started their 2008 season on Wednesday May 7 with the men's A and B teams involved in league fixtures.
Playing at home, Writtle A found themselves involved in a tough contest against Falcon A.
Derek Cook's team had a tight game, trailing for the most of the first half before pulling level at ten shots apiece. However, Falcon managed to get ahead again, winning with a scoreline of 19-13.
Mick Wakeling's rink had a difficult game and, despite their best efforts, lost 9-31 to a team that was stronger on the day.
However, Writtle got a good result on rink one when Mike Fell (skip), Peter Groves, Terry Arthur and Les Pallant took an early lead which they maintained throughout the game. Falcon closed on them strongly but Writtle won with a score of 25-17.
The overall final score was Writtle 47 to Falcon's 69.
Writtle B played away, meeting their counterparts at RHP.
All three rinks were closely contested and could have gone either way. Peter Story's team scored 14 to RHP's 19 and Doug Hobart's team lost 19-24. On the last rink, Peter Horn (skip), Ron Horncastle, Merv Little and Peter Pearce won 17-13.
Writtle B finished with an overall score of 50 to RHP's 56.
