Under-12s win final on penalties

U12 CHELMSFORD YOUTH LEAGUE KNOCK OUT CUP FINAL CHELMSFORD CITY 1 DODDINGHURST OLYMPIC 1 AFTER EXTRA TIME CITY WON 4-3 ON PENALTIES

The Chelmsford Youth League under 12 Final was again held at Billericay Town FC, with the same two teams from last season’s final.

Chelmsford who took the game to Doddinghurst and within five minutes City’s Ronnie Edwards got on the end of a free kick to tuck the ball away neatly for 1-0.

After the goal Chelmsford continued to have the bulk of the possession but, as the half progressed, Doddinghurst started to get more of the play.

With the half almost, over Doddinghurst won a free kick on the edge of the box which they duly dispatched with some style into the corner of the goal 1-1.

Doddinghurst started the second half as they finished the first and looked most likely to break the deadlock, but City soaked up the pressure and slowly stepped up a gear as they looked to turn the game in their favour.

As full time came to a close it was City that were now looking most likely to score, but it was not to be and 20 minutes of extra time would hopefully split these two top teams.

City seemed to go up another gear and were now threatening the Doddinghurst defence a number of times, the main one being a goalmouth scramble that, after four attempts to score, was finally cleared by the Doddinghurst defence.

But with no goals in the second half the match went to penalties and it was Chelmsford who held their nerve and slotted home four from four, while Doddinghurst missed two.
