CHELMSFORD City slipped out of the play-off positions as Oxford City upset the odds to win in the National League South.

The Clarets went down 2-1 at Melbourne Park to make it just one point from nine in the league, following last Saturday's defeat in the FA Cup.

Oxford took the lead after just 13 minutes, netting with their first effort on target.

Matt Paterson fed the ball into the run of Dave Pearce and he made no mistake from close range.

The hosts looked lively, with Chris Assombalonga the most likely, but it was to remain 1-0 at the break.

Ten minutes into the second half it was 2-0. Paterson was again the architect, and Calvin Poku the beneficiary as Oxford doubled their lead.

The Clarets pulled a goal back through Max Porter with more than 20 minutes remaining.

But the leveller was not coming.
