The rain wreaked havoc over the weekend as nearly all of Chelmsford’s games were abandoned.

The first team would have been particularly keen to take to the field with an opportunity to close the gap at the top of the SNEL Premier Division against leaders Wanstead.

But the wet conditions meant that there wasn’t a ball bowled and everyone departed Chelmer Park early.

The 2s were on 182-6 off of 36 overs against Buckhurst Hill when the rain came, Gary Chidley reaching 74 not out.

And the 3s had Hainault & Clayhall on 124-4 from 33.2 overs when rain put an end to proceedings.

The 4s’ match against Wickford lasted just one over and while the 5s completed their match they may have wished for a downpour.

Chelmsford were dismissed for 95 in 26 overs, Stanford-le-Hope overhauling this target within 19 overs.

Both Sunday games were rained off as well - with the first team’s re-arranged match against Upminster now not to be played.
