CHELMSFORD City head into this weekend’s home fixture with Weston-Super-Mare buoyed by two victories over the bank holiday weekend.

Shamir Mullings and Shaun Jeffers scored all four goals between them as the Clarets beat Oxford City 2-0 on Saturday before defeating Welling by the same margin on Monday.

Saturday’s match saw Mullings open the scoring for Rod Stringer’s hosts in the 30th minute at the Melbourne Stadium after be collected a long ball to score.

And Jeffers doubled the advantage in the 41st minute when he used his strength in the box to fire a shot underneath the City keeper.

Monday’s trip to Welling saw Chelmsford bag another three points as the Wings’ win-less start to the season continued.

The hosts fell behind in the seventh minute at Park View Road when Mitchell Nelson let the ball go over his head and Mullings capitalised on the mistake to round goalkeeper Chris Lewington to open the scoring with his fifth league goal of the campaign.

And Jeffers wrapped up the points from the spot in the 64th minute when Welling conceded their sixth penalty in seven games.

It was a rash challenge and Jeffers sent Lewington the wrong way to tuck his spot-kick away and make it a six-point haul for the weekend for Chelmsford.

It was Jeffers’ fourth league goal of the season.

The wins left the Clarets ninth in the table ahead of Saturday’s match against Weston (kick-off 3pm).

The visitors are a point and two places below City and will be looking to bounce back from their 3-0 home hiding against St Albans City on Monday afternoon.
