CHELMSFORD City head to Dartford on Saturday unbeaten in their opening two National League South fixtures.

Rod Stringer’s team started their league campaign on Saturday with a 2-2 draw at Truro City on Saturday and then defeated Margate 2-0 on Monday night at the Melbourne Stadium.

The Clarets got their longest trip out of the league season out of the way at the weekend when they headed to Cornwall.

But things started badly for Chelmsford as Cody Cooke low shot beat Joe Welch after five minutes.

Things got worse in the 22nd minute when an unmarked Shane White made it 2-0 from a corner.

The Clarets were much improved after half time and reduced the arrears in the 61st minute through Chris Bush’s free-kick.

Truro were reduced to 10 men in the 70th minute when River Allen was sent off for a second bookable offence and Chelmsford capitalised in the last minute of normal time when Shamir Mullings headed home Robbie Willmott’s cross to secure a point.

Mullings was on target again on Monday night as City defeated Margate 2-0 thanks to a brace of first-half goals.

Shaun Jeffers made his full debut for the Clarets following his substitute appearance against Truro and wasted no time in making his mark by opening the scoring after 10 minutes.

Skipper Billy Bricknell went off injured after 30 minutes and Mullings came off the bench to double the advantage eight minutes later.

The hosts then missed a hatful of chances to score further goals, while Margate offered little threat at the other end.
