FIRST-TIME finalists Chelmsford City A lie in wait on June 14, hoping to foil Chequers A’s bid to carry off the Ridley League Dominoes Cup for the fourth time in seven years.

The Felsted pub routed City’s B team 7-2 to underline their claim as the competition’s outstanding dommies side. Darren Laudrum and Keith Sweeting were unbeaten, with Des Vickers and Allan Sheldrake winning two out of three for the dominoes league runners-up.

So City B’s cup season ended on a low note; but skipper Paul Ewers’ disappointment was as nothing, compared with that of rival captain Shane Kochan as the Cricketers’ fine campaign collapsed completely.

Already edged out of the Combined title and the Darts Cup semi-finals, the Fryerning team saw another trophy elude them as City A came from behind to prevail by the odd game.

Cricketers had the edge in the first series, but could not see it through. Jon English and Les Parker finished 100 per cent for the home club, and two wins for Doug Hill and Rose Mallord helped swing it.

DOMINOES CUP – Semi-finals: CCFC A 5, Cricketers 4; Chequers A 7, CCFC B 2.

FIXTURES (June 7) – Darts Cup Final: CCFC A v Dog & Partridge (at Lt Waltham SC).
