CHELMSFORD City suffered a 2-0 National League South defeat at Eastbourne Borough as a failure to score cost them dearly.

The Clarets dominated both possession in the opening half but they were unable to make it count.

They continued to be the better side in the second half too but it was Eastbourne who took the lead in the 52nd minute through Nathaniel Pinney.

Darren Lok wrapped up the win in the 78th minute when he lobbed goalkeeper Christian Dibble.

The defeat left Chelmsford 17th in the table and five points above the relegation zone heading into the Easter fixtures.

Chelmsford visit 11th-placed Concord Rangers on Saturday.

City defeated the Beachboys 5-2 in the corresponding league fixture but the defending Essex Senior Cup holders avenged that with a 2-0 win in the county cup.

Kevin Maher’s team defeated Maidstone 1-0 last August and will be hoping to do the double when the second-placed Stones visit the Melbourne Stadium on Monday. Both matches kick-off at 3pm.
