CHELMSFORD coach Eddie Gooby branded his team’s 21-8 London North One defeat to North Walsham as their worst performance this term.
Playing up the slope in the first half, the hosts were 14-5 down at half-time and most spectators thought the game was there for the taking.
But Chelmsford only scored three more points in a lacklustre second half as the well-organised visitors from Norfolk secured the win.
“This was the worst performance we have displayed this season,” said Gooby, “We lacked passion and aggression. It was disappointing.”
Walsham led through a penalty but the next 15 minutes were Chelmsford’s best and were rewarded when Will Ferrier scored an unconverted try.
But the visitors retook the lead with another penalty before scoring an unconverted try following a lineout and completing the half with another penalty.
The second half was an error-strewn, midfield battle, although Simon Hoult did reduce the arrears with a penalty from 40 metres.
But that was as good as it got as Walsham secured the win with a converted try following another lineout.
Chelmsford are without a game this weekend and return to league action at home to Amersham on November 7 at 2.30pm.
