MILL Green Cricketers are still bowling along near the top of the Ridley League, but they were given more of a test than anticipated by lowly Compasses.

The visitors were overrun in the darts, where the Cricketers’ Del Kochan had eight tons or better, but picked up a laudable dominoes victory to keep the margin down and ensure that Cricketers lost ground on leaders Little Waltham SC.

Waltham looked uneasy as bottom team Red Beret took a 3-1 darts lead – including significant wins by Charlie Selby (180) over Tony Bamsey and Malcolm Murray against Darren Kochan, but their all-round strength saw them through in a clean sweep of all four match sections.

Chequers A are up to third, despite a home walloping by Dog & Partridge, who came out on top in everything bar the doubles. Mick Cain shot a maximum for the Dog, with team-mate George Wood adding a 160 start.

Champions City A, without a match, were overhauled by their B team, who made short work of Bird in Hand. The only two darts legs conceded by City cost them the women’s game, but they atoned with their first dominoes win.

Black Bull missed a chance to consolidate among the leaders as Chequers B finally hit form. Steve O’Neil, with a double triumph over Peter Wiffen, and Wayne Goodwin were among the tons for Chequers, who topped off their evening by edging the dominoes.
