SPRINGFIELD Striders’ Kirsty Williams was first lady and fourth overall at the Equinox 24-hour race at Belvoir Castle near Grantham. The 41-year-old Scot covered 112 miles.

The popular Ingatestone Five saw another tranche of personal bests and prizes for the club’s road runners.

The 17 white and yellow vests were led home by Mark Newton who finished second in 26.50. Lee Martin (28.54) won the V40 prize in fifth spot and was joined by captain Stuart Raven (29.38) to form the winning team.

Nikki Brockbank (29.57) was an excellent 14th overall to finish second lady and to also lead the ladies to the team prize with her first ever sub-30 minute clocking. She was joined in the team by Vic Curren (33.35, another PB) and Kerry Marsh (38.33).

Richard Taylor claimed victory in a six-mile trail race at Witham with Karen Chapman doing likewise in the ladies’ competition.

This weekend sees attention turn to the Essex Cross Country Relay championships at Hockley.
