CHEQUERS reached the Dominoes Cup final at the double, to guarantee a happy ending to a Ridley League season of disappointment.

Neil Linin and Keith Sweeting of Chequers A will face the B team’s Noel Cummins and Darren Thomas for the trophy at Little Waltham SC on Tuesday, June 9 – and whoever wins, it’ll be a huge relief for the Felsted pub.

Chequers B have suffered a campaign of near-misses, finishing third in the darts, mixed and women’s leagues, runners-up in the Darts Cup – and beaten by a point for overall second place.

The A team were runners-up in the team darts and missed second spot in the dominoes league on games difference.

Both made no mistake to make the final through, with Cummins and Thomas survived a tough opening-round clash with Black Bull before knocking out cup winners Little Waltham and runners-up Compasses to book their place at finals night.

Things were equally sweet for Sweeting and Linin, who beat champs Caroline Kochan and Marion Wiley (Cricketers) in the last four. Sweeting was in the Black Lion (High Roding) pair who had lost to the Cricketers in the 2011 final.

DOMINOES PAIRS (Cricketers, Mill Green), 1st Rd: N Cummins & D Thomas (Chequers B) bt P Livings & J Steele (Black Bull) 2-1; M & N Raymond (Lt Waltham SC) bt T Hook & T Neal (Bird in Hand) 2-0. 2nd Rd: Cummins & Thomas bt Raymond & Raymond 2-0; G Gregory & P Jackson (Compasses) bt M Frappell & C Parnell (Chelmsford City FC) 2-0; N Linin & K Sweeting (Chequers A) bt C Smith & D Suckling (Dog & Partridge) 2-1; C Kochan & M Wiley (Cricketers) bt J English & L Parker (Globe) 2-1.
