BOXING fans were treated to an outstanding night of pure skill at Chelmsford ABC’s show.

Three out of the four Chelmsford boxers in action won their fights on a card featuring 14 high quality bouts which attracted a 300-plus audience.

Louis O’Doherty was first to fly the flag for Chelmsford. Margate ABC’s Butler started fast, but Doherty stayed composed throwing great combinations.

Butler was put down by a solid jab from Doherty and did well to survive.

Doherty took instructions from his corner men Dave Hull and Dave Hubble and looked confident going into the second round picking his punches well against Butlers’ come-forward style.

Young Doherty forced Butler to take a standing count. After another barrage of punches the referee had seen enough and stopped the contest to save the Margate boxer from further punishment.

Doherty was voted later as best Home boxer by the Essex ABA.

Next to box for Chelmsford was Louis Theedom against Eden Maitland from Hillcrest. The first and second round were close, at times a clash of styles meant for a scrappy affair.

The final round saw Theedom dig deep to catch the eye of the judges and in a very close competitive contest Theedom was voted a winner by all three judges.

Chelmsford featherweight Matt Saunders faced Nick Wing from Strood. Wing flew out of his corner in the first, surprising Saunders, but the Chelmsford lad kept his composure to use his jab.

After instruction during the interval Saunders came out throwing great straight jabs catching Wing as he pushed forward. The final round saw Saunder totally dominate his opponent to earn a unanimous points win.

Last to compete for Chelmsford was Akib Baig up against Zak Mongon from Moulescoombe.

The first round was pretty cagey and the second round became an untidy affair with Mongon out jabbing Akib. Down in the previous two rounds Akib knew he had to step up and threw some good punches but the lad from Moulescoombe did enough to win by a unanimous decision.
