THE final race in the Essex Road Race Grand Prix took place on Sunday at a very soggy Chelmsford 10km. The race also incorporated the County Championships.

Springfield Striders road team have been in sparkling form all season and the weather certainly did not dampen the spirits of the club as they provided the winners of both the men’s and ladies’ events.

Scott Cousins who has come back to formwith a bang after injury won his first County gold medal with another win from gun to tape. Andy Mynott picked up the bronze and with Tom Cammack (10th) the team gold was also in the bag.

Liz Davies continued her good form by taking County gold with June Allen, another returning after injury, claiming bronze. Nikki Brockbank joined these two in the winning team. The same three ladies made a clean sweep of the V35 medals.

Other medallists were Gavin Allen with silver in the V40 category and Ian Cardy who also took silver in the V50 group.

In the Grand Prix the Striders retained both the men’s and ladies’ team awards. The individual golds went to Nikki Brockbank and the training duo of Mark Newton and Tom Cammack, who tied for first place in the season long competition.

Ian Cardy won the V50 and Gavin Allen took another silver in the V40.

This weekend is the County Veterans Championships at Woodford Green and a 53-12 fixture at Hylands Park.
