CHELMSFORD recorded their eighth win out of nine matches to go top of the London 2 North East league table, after a comprehensive 25-8 win against at an out of sorts Enfield side.

The hosts struggled to come to terms with the pace of the game, as compared to Chelmsford, who for the majority of the game dictated proceedings.

The foundations of this victory were once again laid by the forwards who outplayed their much heavier opponents to dominate the set piece scrums and also boss the breakdown area and put themselves on the front foot.

This win was all the more satisfying for coach, Eddie Gooby, as he wasmissing eight front line players from his squad, and for 24 minutes of the match they played with 14 men, after the referee brandished three yellow cards.

“This was the most pleasing performance of the season for me,” he said.

Fly half Simon Hoult kicked two early penalties to make it 6-0 before Jamie Morrish went over underneath the posts for a converted try to make it 13-0.

Enfield replied with a penalty but full back Rhys Whitelock made it 18-3 with a kick-and-run try.

Chelmsford made it 25-3 with a Morrish try which was converted by Hoult.

With the visitors reduced to 14 men following a yellow card, Enfield capitalised with an unconverted try.
