Essex League Dukes Cup

Loughton 141 all out

Chelmsford 142-6

LOUGHTON found the going hard with the bat particularly against Chelmsford’s spinners, James Clifford (5-16) and Rob Hayto (2-22). Hamza Ahmed (34) top scored and there were useful late runs from Almond (31).

Chelmsford’s openers fell cheaply, but Nick Prowting and Jack Sterland combined in a partnership that took control of the game. Sterland was caught for 36 after playing an overambitious shot.

There were still 18 runs required with four wickets left, but Ollie Devenish played with good sense and Prowting (42*) was unfazed. Those two completed victory without further alarm. Butt and Syed-Zaidi picked up three wickets apiece for the visitors.

ECB National Cup Chelmsford 150 all out Hornsey 151-4 A POOR performance from Chelmsford made things easier than Hornsey were expecting.

Four wickets in twelve balls had Chelmsford rocking at 17 for four with Yew taking three of the wickets. Runs came fairly freely but the careless shots continued and the score subsided to 86 for seven before sense prevailed. Adil Dewan (34) played well, but, like most of the others, was out in disappointing fashion.

Hornsey’s openers were out cheaply, but Struthers and Goldberg steadied things. Goldberg reached a half century from 51 balls and eventually made 72 from 68. Hornsey just had to keep wickets and Struthers finished unbeaten on 42.
