Chelmsford City v AFC Hornchurch on tonight

ENCOURAGING news has emerged from Melbourne Stadium, with the Chelmsford City pitch playable as things stand so the home Blue Square Bet South derby against AFC Hornchurch (kick-off 7.45pm) is expected to take place, much to the relief of Manager Glenn Pennyfather.

City’s home game against Tonbridge Angels was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch on Saturday then the original Hornchurch meeting was snowed off on Monday.

These call-offs were frustrating for a team eager to put points on the board and consolidate a position near the top of the table.

Glenn, who did acknowledge that the break had allowed injured players to recover, said: “You always want to have your full quota to select from, and we’ve not had that luxury recently.

"We just want to get out there and play some football and we hope the weather sorts itself out. Last time we played Hornchurch at their place and won it was a good performance from us and it helped us to build momentum.”
