Hamilton: We will bounce back

YOUNG former Colchester United defender Bradley Hamilton has reinforced that “the spirit’s still there” in the Chelmsford City changing room despite dropping points in their last two games against Havant & Waterlooville and Eastleigh, and he’s highlighted the team’s intention to start a new run this weekend.

Hamilton, who has linked up with Glenn Pennyfather’s Clarets for the rest of the season after completing a loan spell from the U’s, reckons Saturday’s home clash against the emerging Sutton United and Tuesday night’s encounter at Bromley hold no fear for a naturally confident squad.

Chelmsford had to recover from a goal down with ten men to secure a 1-1 draw with Havant on Monday night having lost 1-0 at big-spending Eastleigh two days before, and prospect Bradley says that’s indicative of the belief in the squad.

He detailed: “We’ve done well, and had a few games where we’ve had to dig in.

“That shows character from the boys when we’ve got the results. The spirit was good when we were winning, and it’s still there.

“You can see from Monday that the belief in the changing room is tremendous. Credit to Havant, they made it very difficult for us. We’ve just got to keep pushing and getting results.

“We lost at Eastleigh, but there are always positives to take from any game. It was unfortunate really, and we just need to look forward to the next one and try winning every game we can.

“Obviously Glenn’s going to be disappointed but we had no time to dwell on it. We always have to push on to the next one and win that.”

Hamilton entered the fray against Havant at half time following an injury to right-back Justin Miller, and he’s hungry for more opportunities to impress.

Fellow defender Richard Brindley recently sealed a move back into professional football at Chesterfield, and Bradley said that’s made Chelmsford’s youngest talents take note, with a view to their form at City thrusting them in front of the scouts too.

“It’s not nice to see people injured, but if I get a chance I have to take it,” he claimed. “It’s been a steady start since I arrived here, and the more games I get, the fitter I feel and the more strong and consistent I become.

“It’s my aim to get back into league football, and Glenn will help me and encourage me. Richard’s done it, so why not anyone else in the changing room?

“We’ve got to work hard and see what comes about. Chelmsford have a good reputation for pushing players up into the league.

“You can see a few of the boys who came in recently and last season, including others from Colchester, that City have got connections with the league.

“It’s a good club to come to and learn your trade. I just want to play football and enjoy it. It’s down to me at the end of the day.”
