Essex Saturday Veterans Cup Second Round It was a day of shocks in the County Cup with Division Three West sides having a fantastic time in particular. Debden Sports led the way by dispatching Premier Division Shenfield 5-1. Heath Park also claimed a Premier Division scalp by beating Frenford Senior 3-2. Bottom of the division Paringdon put aside their league position to beat Britannia from Division One to the tune of four goals to one. Westhamians travelled to fellow Division members Westhamians and triumphed 7-1.

The other shock was the defeat of Premier Division MetPol Chigwell. They did lead against visitors Manford Way but were reduced to ten men when conceding a penalty just before half time. Alan Moore in the MetPol Chigwell goal saved the kick but was powerless to prevent Manford Way from claiming their place in the Third Round with two second half strikes. 2011 winners Springfield progressed by taking a five goal half time lead against Bishops Stortford. They eased off in the second half but their visitors could only pull two goals back. Last season’s runners up, Bowers & Pitsea (Vichouse), can look forward to a Third Round game after they beat Old Parmiterians 2-1. Lowhall the only remaining representative from Division Four bowed out after a 5-1 defeat by Cricketers Horndon Saxons. The remaining four games that beat the weather all went with form. Chipping Ongar beat Collier Row 3-2, Old Chelmsfordians won 3-1 at home to Leigh Town, Pavilion United triumphed 2-1 against Great Baddow and White Ensign beat Ford Basildon 4-3. White Notley will also be in the next round as opponents Sporting Club Woodham could not field a side.

FOBS (East Hanningfield), Maidonians, Runwell Town, Hutton Old Boys, White Roding and Little Thurrock Dynamos will all have to try to claim their Third Round places next week after their games fell foul to the weather.

Division One All the goals in the Rosebay v Beacon Hill Rovers game came in the first half with Daniel Kirby scoring twice in three minutes to earn the hosts a point. In the other game in the Division Newbury Park beat Herongate Athletic 2-0.

Division Two East Hawkwell Athletic extended their lead at the top of the division by beating Dunmow Rhodes 4-0 thanks to Wayne Macpherson’s 12th and 13th goals of the season along with strikes from Damian Connor and Trevor Sallery.
