Braintree Town’s game plan worked perfectly as they equalled their best away result of the season with a 4-0 win at Barrow AFC in the Blue Square Bet Premier.

Barrow came into the side on the back of a 7-0 drubbing by Mansfield the week previously and were looking to gain revenge for their defeat by Braintree at the Amlin Stadium last month.

However, the Iron weathered the early storm from the hosts and cruised to victory with a stylish display to atone for their own dismal show against Kidderminster Harriers seven days previously.

First-half goals by Aswad Thomas, Jai Reason and Ben Wright, added to a late strike by substitute Jamie Guy sent the Iron and their fans home happy on their long trip back south.

Boss Alan Devonshire said: “We played well.

“I thought for the first 20 minutes that they’d come at us after their result last week and I thought if we stood up to them for that period then we’d be able to get it down and play.

“It worked out as I thought so I’m delighted about that and we put in a good shift that made up for letting the fans down against Kidderminster last week.

“It is a learning curve for us.

“We are a very young side and I think that’s why you see some up and down results from us.

“But I’m really pleased for them after this one as they did what I wanted them to do and they got their rewards.”
