Braintree Town’s striking options are set to be boosted for their home game against Blue Square Bet Premier strugglers Kettering Town tomorrow.

The Iron’s attacking thrust was blunted by suspensions and injury during their trip to AFC Telford United last weekend and they were unable to find the target, despite creating some decent chances throughout the 90 minutes.

A blank return in the goals-for column has been a rarity for Braintree this year, but they are set to to bolster the front line by welcoming back striker Ben Wright and Watford loanee forward Britt Assombalonga from their respective suspensions.

Assombalonga missed the game at Telford after receiving a second yellow card minutes after scoring on his Iron debut in the 3-3 draw at Lincoln City, while Wright hasn’t seen action since the end of January.

He was banned for three games after getting a straight red card for violent conduct in a 3-1 defeat at Fleetwood and, with games postponed because of the winter weather at the start of February, has been out for more than a month.

Wright did get a run-out in a friendly game against Ridgeons League side Brantham earlier this week, as did fellow striker Jamie Guy, who is continuing his return to fitness from an ankle injury.

Iron boss Alan Devonshire said Guy’s fitness still isn’t up to a full first-team recall and he expected the former Colchester United forward to be involved in another reserve fixture tomorrow.

The game against Kettering is also the last of AFC Wimbledon midfielder Brendan Kiernan’s initial month-long loan spell at Braintree and Devonshire said he would look at the possibility of extending the loan after the match tomorrow.

Pat O’Connor is fit after he came off with a bruised foot at Telford last week and Devonshire confirmed skipper Kenny Davis would be available ahead of linking up with the England C team that will face Italy in the International Challenge Trophy next week.
