Colchester Phoenix Swimming Club star Natalie Jones admitted to being stunned as she broke the SM6 European record in the women’s 200 metre individual medley on the final day of the DSE International Disability Swimming Championships in Sheffield.
Jones took almost half a second off the record and won her title with a time of three minutes 14.38 seconds and a total of 980 points.
“If I am honest I am stunned with that time,” Jones said.
“I feel great I am just so happy.
“It is such a relief to have got the (European Championships) qualification time and I am so pleased that I did it in a new European record time.”
The championships incorporated the selection trials for the British Gas squad that will compete at the IPC European Championships in Reykjavik and the two overall fastest swimmers in each event and classification will be considered for selection to the squad.
