ALL-ROUNDER Tony Stubbs insists Frinton have the quality and determination to climb the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship table.

The Ashlyns Road side are third from bottom and were left kicking themselves after missing the chance to notch an eye-catching victory against leaders Worlington on Saturday.

Having bowled the Suffolk pacesetters out for just 198, Frinton subsided to 191.

It was a bitter pill to swallow and Stubbs - also club coach - admitted his side had got themselves into an "unbelievably good position" to win and put more distance between themselves and bottom two Mistley and Elmstead.

Nevertheless, he is confident going forward and believes his side have what it takes to move away from the relegation places.

"Anyone can beat anyone on any given day in this division," said Stubbs.

"It's about having the right attitude and determination to go out and win games, in addition to having a settled, consistent and well-balanced side.

"That's absolutely crucial and with that in mind, I don't see any reason why we can't go on a run and finish the season strongly.

"The quality is here but at the same time we're also realistic.

"We know it's going to be a fight.

"We're in a position we don't want to be in and the pressure's on, but I believe in the players at our disposal and feel confident we can climb to safety."

Having lost the toss and been asked to bowl first, Frinton made great inroads and dismissed Worlington for just 198.

Young left-arm spinner Cameron Rhodes took four wickets for 43 runs, during his ten overs, and there were also two wickets apiece for Stubbs, who removed both opening batsmen, Jermaine Shillingford and Robert Everson.

In reply, the hosts made a flying start and opener Joe Fowler made 73, ably supported by skipper Sam Brynes (43).

However, the hosts crumbled from 157 for four to 191 all out.

Elsewhere, Halstead inflicted more misery on Mistley, winning by 83 runs at Star Stile.

Charlie Douglas-Hughes (89 not out), Craig Spooner (62), Joe Morris (46 not out) and opener Chris Huntington (42) helped them post a total of 275 for seven, despite two wickets apiece for Paul Garwood, James Scott and Matt Bibby.

Morris (three for 18) and Josh Wells (three for 24) then put the brakes on the Swans, who were all out for 192.

Sizwe Masondo top-scored with 72.

Max Bryant (94), Chris Harris (53) and Matt Anderson (four for 45) helped Maldon defeat Ipswich by 44 runs while Witham's revival continued as they saw off Hadleigh by 72 runs, largely thanks to Forster Mutizwa (56 not out), Jake Wakelin (four for 12) and Greg Stephens (three for 23).

Two more Essex sides met at Rectory Road as visitors Coggeshall defeated Wivenhoe by 93 runs.

George Canham made 75, Edwards King 55 and Charlie Green 52 as they batted first and made 255, despite four wickets for Liam Holyman and three for Harry Burnett.

However, Wivenhoe were dismissed for 162 as Tom Durrell made 56 and Matt Durrell 51.

There were three wickets apiece for Kane Addison and Josh Morton.

In the other first division fixture, Woolpit inflicted another defeat on basement boys Elmstead, winning by ten wickets, despite Ryan Vickery making 57.

In the second division, Braintree ran out two-wicket winners at Copford, largely thanks to three wickets apiece for Dean Bass and Barry Stephens and Daniel Garner making 46.

Copford's key men were Calum Reid (69), Ian Catley (three for 40) and Stephen Moriarty (three for 50).

Harlan Greig inspired Clacton to victory at Little Bardfield Village.

The Seasiders prevailed by seven wickets with Greig the hero, taking four wickets and then top-scoring with an unbeaten 74.

Kieron Parkes contributed 48 and Bradley Pitts 37.
