DAN Azeez has vowed to produce a crowd-pleasing performance when he steps into the ‘lion’s den’ at York Hall tonight.

The Essex University Boxing Club member embarks on his fifth professional bout at the renowned Bethnal Green venue when he takes on the experienced Adam Jones, as part of MTK Global’s Seize the City show.

It is the first six-round bout of Azeez’s professional career and the classy light heavyweight is determined to maintain his unblemished record, after successfully stepping up from the amateur ranks.

Azeez said: “I hope I can produce more of the same - I want to entertain.

“I’m feeling good as always.

“Training has been strenuous but I feel as though I’m getting better and better.

“It’s my first professional fight at York Hall and it feels like a homecoming for me - fighting there is like being in a lion’s den.

“The crowd are right on top of you and I want to put in a crowd-pleasing performance.

“It’s a special one for me and I just want to put on a show.

“For me, it’s the Mecca of English boxing.”

Azeez has been putting in the hours in the gym in readiness for the contest at York Hall, which is known as the home of British boxing.

He has working on his strength and conditioning at the University of East London and is feeling confident.

“This will be my first six-round fight, so I’ve trained hard,” said the talented 28-year-old, who has already boxed at the venue as an amateur.

“I think boxing over six rounds will suit my style.

“I don’t go looking for the knockout – I work my in and grind my opponent down.

“Over four rounds, there’s a danger that you might look to rush your work but I’ll pace myself and I know that I can step up.”

Azeez will take on Yorkshire’s Jones, having once again been forced to wait until the last minute to discover the identity of his opponent for tonight’s contest.

But the Londoner insists that does not faze him, as he continues his journey as a professional.

He added: “Opponents have changed so many times before fights.

“They’re finding it quite hard to find me an opponent at times.

“I can’t think about that though – I just have to keep my focus on doing my job.”
