COLCHESTER Rovers youngster Tom Carson showed his progress at the GHS (George Herbert Stancer) Trophy ten-mile National Youth Time Trial Championship, in Cambridgeshire.

Carson, who represented the London East District under-13 boys, mastered the wet and slippery conditions on the N1/10 course near Sawtry to clock a time of 27 minutes 26 seconds.

It represented a two-minute improvement on his time of last year for Carson, who had qualified as first under-13 in his regional event at Maldon, in June.

Over the years, the likes of Essex's Alex Dowsett along with Chris Boardman, Steve Cummings and Eric Rowsell have progressed from the GHS to make their mark in the professional ranks.

This year, 173 boys and girls were listed for the final, following a series of regional qualifying events.

Junior riders Theo Modell of Team Corley Cycles and Liv CC-Epic Coaching's Pfeiffer Georgi claimed the GHS Trophies.

Modell clocked 20m 43s to win by seven seconds, while Georgi eased to victory by almost two minutes in the girls' title race with a time of 23m 01s.
