EIGHT Ash Green Cricket Club's players toasted victory - by providing their opponents with beers from Colchester Brewery.

The Two Counties Championship division five side have made a habit of presenting opposing teams with a plaque, after playing them for the first time in their 69-year history.

But after their comprehensive 20-point win at bottom side Yoxford, which leaves them second in the table, they offered a gift of the liquid variety.

Eight Ash Green's Matt Parker, who was the Colchester Brewery man of the match after claiming a five-wicket haul, said the gesture went down well.

Parker said: "This year, we play both Yoxford CC and Needham Market CC for the first time.

"Usually we give teams a plaque of some sorts.

"However, when we both played them at home they all took a liking to our Colchester Brewery beer!

"So we asked Colchester Brewery, who sponsor our man of the match award, if they would like to help us make it a bit more memorable for them!

"They happily provided their No.1 ales to award the team after a well spirited victory for the Green!

"It made a nice change from a plaque and was enjoyed by the whole team!"
