POP singer Olly Murs pitched in late on to help Coggeshall Town as they kept the race for the Thurlow Nunn League division one title going with style.

With leaders Stowmarket Town held to a draw at March Town United, Coggeshall's hopes of lifting the title stayed alive as they hammered Needham Market Reserves 9-0 at West Street.

Coggeshall stayed third in the table, but second placed Haverhill Borough have played all their games and the Seedgrowers are three points behind Stowmarket with one game to go for the pair.

And their nine goals may yet play a crucial part as they have given the chasers an eight-goal superior goal difference.

Tom Monk and Nnamdi Nwachuku hit two each for Coggeshall against Needham, while Jamie Shaw, Tyrone Scarlett, Kamal Guthmy and Aaron Cosgrove boosted the lead before Murs came off the bench and scored from the penalty spot in the dying moments.

Another division one side on the goal trail were HALSTEAD TOWN, who won 5-1 at bottom side Leiston Reserves as Shaun Avis scored twice and there was a strike apiece for Kane Gilbert, Cameron Storie and Tom Holdstock.

HOLLAND FC were also good travellers as they went to Team Bury and came home as 3-0 winners, but BRAINTREE TOWN RESERVES had away day blues as Will Davies' 90th minute headed goal proved a winner for hosts Woodbridge Town.

In the premier division, win of the day went to FC CLACTON, who bounced back from their derby defeat by Wivenhoe Town on Easter Monday with a five-star show at the Rush Green Bowl.

The Seasiders struck five goals on home turf for the first time since September 2014 as Kevin Coyle got four and Jake Clowsley one in a 5-0 win against Godmanchester Rovers that lifted them back off the foot of the table.

WIVENHOE TOWN were unable to build on their Easter win and a 3-0 loss against Fakenham Town has left them in relegation danger, while STANWAY ROVERS were also defeated on home turf.

It was champions Mildenhall Town who beat Karl Duguid's Rovers side as Dan Brown and Luke Butcher struck in a 2-0 win for the top dogs.

There was a win for Brantham Athletic, though.

They had a penalty save from Jack Spurling to thank for keeping them ahead early at Walsham le Willows and went on to seal a 3-0 win with a Sean Gunn brace and one from Sean Lorimer.
