COLCHESTER Indoor Bowls Club experienced mixed fortunes when they hosted Ford Sports of Basildon.

The home club won on two of the rinks but lost on three, with one tied.

However, Colchester won 105-86 overall on shots.

On rink one, skip Dave Nichols playing with Malcolm Byford and Jill Dyer, lost a close game.

They held a slim lead for four of the 18 ends but surrendered it on the 11th end and failed to recover it, losing 15-12.

On rink two, Colchester's David Jones and his team also lost a very close game.

They had led for the first four ends but Ford hit the front on the sixth end and never lost it.

Colchester trailed 11-3 after nine ends but only narrowly lost 15-14.

Colchester's Norman Manning, playing with Val Finbow and Jim Cousins had a big 20-12 victory on rink three, having led after led 20-2 at the 11th.

On rink four, Pip Green, Sheila and Brian Smith had to settle for a 17-17 tie after leading 14-7 after seven ends.

They had to claim three shots on the last end to secure a tie.

Sandy Finbow, playing with Ruby and Malcolm Wilkinson, led 12-6 after 12 ends on rink five but only scored one more, to lose 13-18.

On rink six, skip Tom Smith had a big 28-9 victory which secured Colchester's overall shots victory.

They were never behind on the scoreboard and led 21-4, after 13 ends.

Colchester hosted Tiptree Jobserve over three rinks, managing two wins and a loss with a shot count of 85-51.

David Jones and his team Malcolm Byford, Gordon Barrett and Martin French won 34-19, which included a hotshot.

Rink two also saw a big win for Colchester skip Kevin Cornwell along with Ruby Wilkinson, Joan Barrett and Ann Wright.

They won 33-13 after leading from the start.

Rink three saw a reversal of fortunes with Colchester losing a close match, 19-18.

Colchester held the lead on four occasions and after 20 ends the scores were tied, before Tiptree nicked it.
