Delighted Colchester United head coach John McGreal is hoping his side's comprehensive 3-0 win at Cheltenham Town tonight will form the platform from which they can build from in League Two.

Second-half goals from Craig Slater, Brennan Dickenson and Tom Eastman helped the U's secure a morale-boosting win at Whaddon Road, their first in 11 league matches.

McGreal said: "We'll enjoy the moment because it's been a long time coming - now we have to build on it.

"I'm delighted for the fans too because they've been on a few journeys with us without getting the rewards.

"The players have put the shift in and together we've got the three points that we thoroughly deserved.

"I thought we were good in both boxes and we got our rewards in the second half and they put in a shift.

"Hopefully this will be the platform for us to build on now to have a good run."

Colchester brought Owen Garvan and George Elokobi back into their starting line-up for their first games of the season in League Two.

The experienced duo shone against Cheltenham and boss McGreal was delighted with their performances.

"We brought Owen Garvan and George Elokobi back and I just thought that little bit of experience really helped, especially in the second half," he said.

"When we went 1-0 up, we looked comfortable being ahead and we went on to score two more goals.

"Credit goes to those two boys but it had been coming and thankfully that win has come tonight."
