ESSEX University light welterweight Dan Salmon beat the host club's Josh Young at Brentwood's Open Show, in Ongar.

This was a good performance from Salmon, whose left jab and left hook was dominant all through the three rounds.

Salmon showed good skills in the opening round when moving on the retreat and connecting with left right, left hook.

That stopped the Brentwood boxer in his tracks and allow Salmon to dominate the action.

Keeping up the pressure, Salmon would put combinations together and when a peach of a left hook caught Young flush on the jaw, it looked like the bout was over.

However, Salmon let his man off the hook when he could have finished the bout.

This lack of experience can only be learnt from though and he took control of the third round with accurate left jabs to secure a very good win.

Essex University's Roseanne Allen was delivered a very harsh decision in the National semi-finals staged at Ipswich Town Football Club.

She lost out to Banbury's Magna Olsztynska, who from the opening bell came out throwing big wild punches that sneaked through Allen's guard and invited the referee to give her a standing count of eight.

Allen is notoriously a slow starter, relying on her fitness and skill in the later rounds to take control of the bout.

But unperturbed, the Essex University boxer kept her guard high ready to commence with the action.

The referee waved the action on and when the Banbury boxer landed with a big left hand slap on the right glove of Allen, the referee jumped in to stop the bout.

Like many of the spectators, Allen could not believe what was going on and it led to a frustrating defeat for the Essex University boxer.
