Hakan Hayrettin is keen to start the hard work needed to get Braintree Town pushing up the Vanarama National League table after being appointed as the Iron’s new manager.

The club have announced that the 46-year-old has taken over the reins following Sunday’s departure of Jamie Day.

Hayrettin takes over with Braintree sitting in the National League relegation zone, having won just two of their 12 games so far this year and he knows the size of the task ahead.

The new boss, who met his players for the first time on Tuesday night, said: "I won't promise miracles, but we'll all be working very hard to turn our fortunes around and that started tonight.

“As I said to the lads earlier: Let's go to work!"

Hayrettin joins Braintree with a wealth of experience in non-league football.

After a successful playing career in both the Football League and in senior non-League football, Hakan managed for ten years at Waltham Forest, Thurrock and Grays Athletic.

In the summer of 2013 he was invited to join John Still at Luton Town and was part of the successful management team that secured the Conference title with the Hatters and promotion back to the Football League.

He remained at Luton in the Football League until leaving with Still last December.
