Colchester Swimming Club member Laura Stephens set a new junior British record at the European Championships.

The 16-year-old clocked an excellent time of 27.37 seconds in the women's 50 metres butterfly heats, at the London Aquatics Centre.

Stephens was also in action in the women's 100m butterfly, securing a new personal best in the heats in a time of 59.27s to qualify for the semi-finals where she finished in fifth place in a time of 58.84 to book her place as first reserve for Friday's final.

The former Colchester High School for Girls pupil is also due to take part in the 200m butterfly heats, on Saturday.
