CLACTON boxer Joe Hurn had a belated birthday present after powering to another victory on the pro circuit.

Four days after celebrating his 30th, the light middleweight won his first six-round fight against Lithuanian Deividas Sajauka.

He won a tough bout on points, in Norwich.

And the success continued his flying form on the pro circuit, making it four wins from four – including three knockouts – since gaining his pro licence at the start of the year.

“It was a belated birthday present,” said the former FC Clacton footballer.

“The lad I was up against was really tough.

“I hit him with everything I had – some massive shots – but he wore them well and kept fighting back.

“He went down in the third round but was straight back on his feet.

“He’s had 20 pro fights and never been knocked out, so I knew it was going to take a lot to stop him.

“He wasn’t the best boxer I’ve competed again, but he was the most durable.

“It really went the distance and was my toughest fight as a pro, but I came through it and that’s all that matters.”

Hurn is now looking ahead to his first title fight, on November 20, again in Norwich.

His opponent is yet to be revealed but it will be an eight-round contest for a new belt called the classic challenge belt.

“I could be the first lad to win it and if I could do that I’d be over the moon,” said the former Clacton County High School pupil.

“It’ll be tough and a step up, but it’s a challenge I’m really looking forward to. My most recent fight has given me extra confidence and it shows I’ve got six rounds in my tank. I’ve got off to a good start on the pro circuit.

“I’ve won four out of four – three by knockout – and things couldn’t have gone any better.”
