George Elokobi is closing in on his first Colchester United appearance since returning to the club last month.

But U's boss Tony Humes admits the powerful defender is still in need of a little more game time, in his attempts to play his part in the club's League One campaign.

Elokobi has not featured for Colchester since returning to the club on a free transfer last month and missed the start of pre-season, not featuring in any of their friendlies.

But he travelled to Peterborough United with the rest of the Colchester squad last weekend and was an unused substitute in the U's 2-1 defeat.

The former Wolves defender is likely to be on the bench again for the U's tomorrow night when they face his former club Oldham Athletic, whom he left at the end of last season after a year at Boundary Park.

Humes said: “George will be part of the squad against Oldham.

“He’ll be involved but he probably needs a bit more match time.

“We have an under-21 game (against Birmingham) on Wednesday and he’s likely to be involved in that."
