STOKE by Nayland Golf Club beat The Warren 4-3 to top their league and progress to the Bronze Shield quarter-finals.

Carol Mehrer lost 3&2 while Nora Hutchinson was beaten on the 17th, 2&1.

But Corinne Jackson was triumphant, after her game went to the second extra hole.

Anne Hemmings and Maria Gilgar both won their matches on the 16th green, winning 4&2 and 3&2 respectively.

Barbara Jones lost her close match 2&1 on the 17th, while Lesley Hitchcock won 3/2 after triumphing on the first extra hole.

The quarter-finals will take place on a neutral course on July 6.

Stoke by Nayland had previously stayed top of the league after beating Clacton on Sea, 5-2.

Stoke by Nayland’s Harris Bowl team used the advantage of the Constable Course to good effect in their home game against Regiment Way.

With everyone giving between eight and ten shots to their opponents, the hosts ran out 5-0 winners.

Fran Chandler won 5&4 and Carol Mehrer triumphed 8&7, after winning on the 11th hole.

Jackson won 5&4 while Lesley Garnett was victorious after her opponent conceded the hole and the match following a wayward drive on the 16th.

Hemmings rounded off Stoke by Nayland’s comprehensive victory, after winning a sudden death hole.

Stoke by Nayland’s next match is at West Essex, on July 3.
