A good-sized field turned out competing for the Mullis Trophy qualifier and a chance to represent Playgolf Colchester.

The pairs event sees teams of two playing off three-quarters of their handicap allowance in a better ball format.

The winners go on to represent the club at a regional qualifier.

Mark Pidgeley and Matt Barnett teamed up to win their second pairs competition this season, after winning the Daily Mail foursomes earlier in the year.

However, with great scoring conditions prevalent, the winning score needed a countback decision to separate three teams on 42 points.

Pidgeley and Barnett had a great back nine to take first place.

Father and son duo John and Joe Cosgrove were second ahead of Tom English and Mick Seaman, who, despite recording the lowest gross, were pushed in to third place by the narrowest of margins.

A steady round enabled Michael Johnson to win the senior division one stableford competition.

He scored on every hole to put together the winning score of 37 points, three ahead of James Sealey.

Sealey took second place on countback from Len Cole, after both finished with 34 points.

Division two was a closely-fought affair with Ken Ellsmore winning on 32 points.

Bob Price took second place on countback beating Geoffrey Tredgett after both carded 31 points.
