PLAYGOLF Colchester are setting the pace in the Jubilee Cup following a convincing 8-1 win over Loughton GC.

Matt Gladman claimed a huge 7&6 victory while father and son duo Trevor and Matthew Barnett both won their individual matches, 5&4.

Mark Pidgeley won 4&3 before Bruce Critchley won two-up and Phil Reeve won one-up on the 18th.

In the doubles, Harry Yearling and Roger Giles won 4&3 and Scott Wyatt and Ben Jay triumphed 3&2.

Dean Rainbird and Brian Williams lost on the last hole one-down to Jimmy Hepworth and Paul Farrar.

There was a large turnout in Playgolf’s club championships qualifier, where order of merit points were up for grabs.

Lee Kidger (8) won division one on countback from runner-up Darren Kerr (9), after both players carded nett 67.

Kidger carded a joint lowest-gross 75 with Ben Cosgrove (4) and recorded an excellent 13 pars.

Kerr claimed ten pars and a birdie on the par-four sixth while Paul Addison (7) shot a one under Competition Scratch Score (CSS) 69 to finish third.

Steve Turner (13) scored a nett 67 to win division two and earn a handicap cut, which will see him play in division one next time out.

He recorded a solid three-under, gross 80 ahead of runner-up David Evans (20), who shot a level par round.

A superior back nine helped Matt Barnett see off Calum McKenzie (13), Lee Whitten (15) and Ron Gilzean (13) on countback.

Chris Highfield (27) won division three on countback from runner-up Benjamin Jay (22) and third-placed Graham Adye (22), after all three carded level-par rounds of 70. John Edgell (22) fired a nett 73 to win division one of the senior monthly medal on countback, thanks to a better back-nine score.

He saw off runner-up William Elder (15), third-placed Michael Johnson (21) and Christopher Brown (21), who was fourth.

Mervyn Harwood (28) carded a nett 69 to win division two, reducing his handicap reduction to 27.

Geoffrey Tredgett (26) was runner-up with a card of nett 73 while David Palmer (28) finished third on countback ahead of Patrick Driver, after both carded nett 78.

Only three shots separated the top five in Playgolf Ladies’ Monthly Medal division one competition.

Gina Macmillan won on countback ahead of Ann Longman after both recorded nett 75, with Liz Schultz third (nett 76).

Pauline Jordan was a clear winner in division two, after shooting a superb nett 72.

Playgolf Colchester’s juniors produced a determined display to beat Gosfield 3-2, in a hard-fought match.

The match was all square at 2-2 after Jack Moutell and Jack Blackman claimed away points, with the final match even standing on the 18th tee.

Ed Quilty carded a birdie on the par-five 18th to claim a one-up victory over Gosfield’s Jack Stoney and seal Playgolf’s dramatic win.
