EDDIE Bridle and James King have secured overall silver at the 2015 RYA National Youth Championships.

The Brightlingsea Sailing Club cadets were the top under-19 boat, sailing a Spitfire Catamaran, in the multihull class at the prestigious championships held at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.

The annual event is the premier competition where UK youth sailors compete for the prize to be named top RYA youth sailor.

The weather across the week was tricky with unexpected light winds and fog hampering proceedings on some days.

As a result, eight races were held overall for the multihull class, with 17-year-old Bridle and 16-year-old King leaving it to the last race to snatch second place overall.

The multihull class allows sailors up to 21 to compete but only under-19s can be selected for the British Youth Sailing Team.

As a result of their success, Bridle and King have been selected to sail for the UK in the multihull class at the EuroSAF competition in Brest, France, in July, which brings all of the national youth champions together from across Europe.

The Spitfire Catamaran is a 16-foot racing catamaran, built by White Formula of Brightlingsea, that is suitable for all ages and abilities. Anyone interested in sailing should contact Brightlingsea Sailing Club (commodore@sailbrightlingsea.com), the RYA’s 2015 sailing club of the year, where both Bridle and King are qualified coaches.
