A fine birdie on the final hole crowned Rob Cornish’s victory in Playgolf Colchester’s PGA Pro-Am competition.

Cornish (15) made the most of the good conditions to sweep the rest of the field away and win by two clear shots. He carded a nett 67 to record a winning score of three under the Competition Scratch Score (CSS) of 70.

Cornish’s winning card, which included seven pars, helped him to cut his handicap by one shot.

Benjamin Jay (24) sealed runners-up spot on countback from Phil Reeve (14) with a better nett back nine score, after both players carded nett 69.

Reeve’s round highlights comprised of seven pars and a birdie, on the par-five second hole.

Tees were pulled back to maximize the course length on a cold, blustery morning.

Recent dry weather meant additional roll on offer for any player who managed to stay on the lush fairways.

Alan Cole and Steve Turner returned a creditable nett 60 to win Playgolf Colchester’s senior four ball better ball medal competition by five shots.

Cole and Turner dovetailed well, gaining a minimum of nett pars on all but two holes.

Gregg King and Tony Millington were runners-up, finishing five shots behind with a nett 65.

Terry Skornia and Jeff Coles claimed third position with their nett 67.

Result: 1 S Turner / A Cole 74-9.0=60; 2 G King / T Millington 84-19.0=65; 3 T Skornia / J Coles 80-11.0=67.
