Other than taking goal-scoring opportunities Colchester United manager Tony Humes didn’t feel there was much between his relegation-battling U’s team and promotion-chasing Doncaster Rovers.

Rovers won the League One clash between the pair at the Keepmoat Stadium with an Enda Stevens goal in the first half and a late Nathan Tyson penalty.

However, the U’s had their chances to get something from the game – most notably with an early penalty that was missed by Chris Porter when it was still goalless.

So while we was frustrated not to back up their win against leaders Bristol City the week before, Humes felt there were positives to take from the encounter.

He said: “I don’t think there was a lot in the game.

“Possibly they had more of the ball and created a few more chances but I don’t think there were masses of difference.

“The main difference was certainly that they took the first chance and clearly the penalty scenario – they took theirs and we missed ours.

“You back him (Chris Porter) to score and it changes the game, as we’ve said so many times this season, if he does.

“That’s the disappointing thing and the frustrating thing.

“But I don’t think it played on the players’ minds.

“I thought we kept going and it was a disciplined rather than a spectacular performance.

“We coped with most of what Doncaster threw at us and most of what they did was all played in front of us.

“We had chances, though.

“We flashed a couple across the goal and had we been on the front foot and been a bit more positive there were goals to be taken.”
