Garry Kimble is hoping that a weekend off will have done his Witham Town players some good ahead of another crunch Ryman League premier division fixture for his team.

Witham were due to host Peacehaven and Telscombe on Saturday, but the game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the Village Glass Stadium and the next game in their battle against relegation is now tonight’s home fixture against Tonbridge Angels.

Manager Kimble said he had given his players some rest rather than working them hard on their unscheduled day off and hopes it will have the desired effect as they look to extend their three-game unbeaten run.

Kimble said: “I thought Saturday’s game would be on so it was disappointing that the pitch was too wet, but to be fair, we had looked a bit jaded against Harrow Borough in the week and it gave me a chance to rest the boys.

“Hopefully that will do us some good as they had the weekend off and we’ll come back tonight with batteries recharged.

“There are 15 games to go and we just have to make sure we keep ourselves out of that bottom four.

“We know it will be a tall order, but we have more home games than away and we have to make our home advantage count – starting with tonight’s game.”

Kimble said he didn’t have any fresh injury concerns ahead of tonight’s game and expected to be able to name Tom Wraight back in his squad after the 20-year-old midfielder’s trial at Championship side Ipswich Town ended.

“Tom is back with us now as Ipswich have decided not to take him on,” added Kimble.

“That’s a disappointment for him, but it’s now down to him to get his head down and impress again back in the shop window.

“It will be a boost for us, though, as Tom is a big player for us and he has done really well this season.”
