Elliott Hewitt is set to stay at Colchester United on loan for another month.

And U’s boss Tony Humes says he will consider using the Ipswich Town loanee in a more advanced role.

Hewitt is expected to remain at Colchester until at least mid-January, after his current loan spell ended last weekend.

The 20-year-old, who was replaced at half-time in the U’s 4-1 defeat against Rochdale, has played the majority of his ten games for the U’s at right-back.

But Mick McCarthy has fielded him as a midfielder at Ipswich and Humes says it is something he will also consider.

Humes said: “We’ve been pleased with Elliott.

“He still has a lot of learning to do but he’s improving the defensive side of his game week by week.

“On Saturday, it was a case of making a change and it wasn’t detrimental to him - it was just something we needed to do.

“Playing Elliott a little bit more advanced is something that we’ve looked at.

“He’s a very attack-minded player and it’s something that we would consider.”
