Alex Lynn was unable to celebrate becoming the 2014 GP3 Series champion with a race win in Abu Dhabi, but he did sign off in style with a podium finish.
The 21-year-old from Dunmow took third spot in the sprint race at the Yas Marina circuit in the final race of a season that has seen him dominate and become the overall champion.
That ending saw Lynn end with a 42-point lead at the top of the drivers’ championship and also helped his Carlin team to wrap up victory in the team standings.
It wrapped up a successful season for Lynn, who led the standings in the series since the opening qualifying session in the first round in Spain and went on to dominate the 2014 championship.
Lynn added: “It’s such a stressful thing to try and win the title; you’re always under pressure and always trying to respond to everything. I’ve been really proud to lead the Series from the first moment in Barcelona right until the end.
"I’ve been working so hard all year and to be honest it does feel like a big relief to get it done.”
